Congratulations Christina Taylor, MD!

 

The Iowa Medical Society was proud to celebrate the installation of our 175th President, Christina Taylor, MD on Friday, April 19 at our annual President's Reception and Awards Ceremony, held at Hotel Fort Des Moines.

 

Dr. Taylor is Chief Medical Officer of Clover Health’s Value Based Care division where she is dedicated to educating and enabling physicians and healthcare organizations to provide higher quality but more affordable healthcare.

IMS 2024 Award Recipients

 

The 2024 IMS Awards were presented to the following individuals or organizations at the 175th Annual President's Reception and Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 19 at Hotel Fort Des Moines. The Iowa Medical Society congratulates and thanks Dr. Muller, Urban Bicycle Food Ministry, Ms. Griffis, and Dr. Elson, for their outstanding contributions to healthcare in the state of Iowa.

 

David Muller, MD: IMS/COPIC Physician Humanitarian Award Recipient - Given to a physician in Iowa for volunteer medical services and contributions to their community through principles focused on human dignity, social justice, and compassion. The recipient of this award designates a $10,000 donation from COPIC to a healthcare related 501(c)(3) organization within Iowa.

 

Urban Bicycle Food Ministry: Washington Freeman Peck Award - Given to a lay organization in honor of its outstanding contributions to public health. Thank you to UBFM board member Robby Collier for accepting this award on behalf of the Urban Bicycle Food Ministry

 

 

Vallery Griffis: John F. Sanford Award - Given to an individual who has made remarkable contributions to public health or healthcare.

 

 

Marygrace Elson, MD: Merit Award recipient - recognizes a physician's exceptional contributions to the medical profession and IMS.

 

24-1 Policy Forum Results

The Policy Forum meeting marks the end of the Policy Forum process. At each meeting, all Policy Request Statements (PRS) and accompanying Testimony Forum comments are reviewed by the Policy Forum members and either accepted, amended, rejected, tabled, or sent to an ad hoc committee for further discussion. Policy Forum 24-1 met April 19 in Des Moines to deliberate and act on policy requests which had previously gone before the full membership for consideration. IMS Blitz Day in Cedar Rapids: May 22, 2024

The Iowa Medical Society is coming to Cedar Rapids as part of our Blitz Days across Iowa! This is a great opportunity for our individual and group members in the eastern part of the state to meet with IMS leadership, including President Christina Taylor, MD, CEO Steven Churchill, and staff to learn more about IMS and how we can best serve Iowa physicians. The Blitz includes meetings with area physicians and healthcare leaders, a legislative update for their physicians, and visits with other clinics and providers. The day will be capped with a networking reception hosted at Biaggis Ristorante Italiano from 5:00 - 6:30pm. You can register and learn more by clicking the button below.
