We are excited to have you join us next Tuesday, Feb. 17. This is an important day of advocacy for the practice of medicine in Iowa. Please review the information below prior to your visit.

Attire

Wear your white coat to the event. It helps identify you as a physician to lawmakers at the Capitol and highlights our presence. IMS provides a limited number of white coats that you may borrow in the event that you do not have your white coat with you.

Business or business casual attire is appropriate. Wear comfortable shoes for walking to the Capitol. The forecast in Des Moines calls for overcast skies and highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, a great day for a February walk to the Hill.

Email your legislator before you go to let them know you want to meet for Physician Day on the Hill. You can find your legislator here.

As you arrive

The Iowa Medical Society is located on the fourth floor of 515 East Locust Street. Take the elevator up to the fourth floor and make your way to the registration table and check in to receive your IMS advocacy packet. Please arrive before 11:30 to allow time for lunch.

Briefing materials

In preparation for Physician Day on the Hill, please watch the below video (17 minutes) from IMS Director of Government Relations, Seth Brown, JD.

Additionally, information packets will be distributed at the Legislative Briefing session, with useful resources and tips for speaking with legislators.

Lunch

Lunch will be provided to all attendees at the Iowa Medical Society Headquarters before the briefing.

Parking

On-street metered parking is available near the Iowa Medical Society Headquarters. You may find limited parking in the parking garage at 308 E 6th Street.

Iowa City bus

If you signed up to ride the bus from Iowa City, please arrive at the Dillard’s parking lot at the Coral Ridge Mall by 9:00 am. The bus will leave promptly at 9:15 am. An IMS representative will be present to ensure all those who registered make it onto the bus. Please email gfleming@iowamedical.org as soon as possible if your plans change.
