Abimbola Olayinka, MD

                                                                     


2:30– 3:15 pm                Speaker 2: Outpatient Asthma for the General Pediatrician


Daniel Hinds, MD, MS: Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Iowa. Hinds is the Fellowship Director and Medical Director of the Rare and Diffuse Lung Disease Program. He also has interests in bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), neuromuscular disease, pulmonary hypertension, and asthma.


Presentation Description: Recommendations for asthma care in general pediatrics, including updates from NHLBI and GINA guidelines, challenges, and where care might be going in the future.

3:30 – 4:15 pm              Speaker 3: Caring for Adolescents with Eating Disorders


Aaron Ballantyne, MD: Dr. Ballantyne attended medical school at the University of Iowa. Following medical school, he served for 11 years in the United States Air Force, completing his pediatric residency and Adolescent Medicine training in uniform. After separating from the military in 2023, he joined the Adolescent Medicine team at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines Iowa. Dr. Ballantyne’s clinical interests include eating disorder, transgender healthcare, and mental health for adolescent patients.


Presentation Description: This lecture seeks to introduce the diagnosis of eating disorders, common medical complications, the importance and roll of ancillary providers in treating eating disorders, and how to determine appropriate level of care.


4:15 – 5:00 pm              Speaker 4: Neurologic Autonomic Disorders and Testing 


                                 Ashlesha Kaushik, MD, FAAP: Medical Director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at Unity Point Health, Sioux City, Iowa, and Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Kaushik is American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National spokesperson, serves on Iowa American Academy of Pediatrics Board and has been elected as the Vice President of Iowa American Academy of Pediatrics.


Presentation Description: Updates for pediatricians and providers on the latest CDC/ACIP immunization recommendations for RSV, COVID-19, and Influenza to enhance protection and prevent the spread of these respiratory viruses in vulnerable pediatric populations for the upcoming season.
